Cruising in the Ute
My pal asked me to make a birthday cake for her Grandad, turning 90 and her brother turning 50. She wanted to relive a moment from their youth, where Grandad would drive them down a dirt road near the river mouth in his favourite orange ute.
The Cake
The cake is four layers of yummy chocolate fudge cake with chocolate cream cheese filling and covered in chocolate cream cheese. The top layer of the cake is carved to be a ramp for the truck to sit at an angle.
Fondant figures
I was given a photograph of the birthday boys to make hand-made fondant figures, rocks, plants, street signs and other decorations.
Rice Crispy Truck
This was the first time I've made a truck out of rice crispy treats. I used rice bubbles and marshmallows and moulded them into shape using my template, covered the shape in royal icing to harden up. I put a plain layer of fondant, then covered the last layer in orange. I embellished with fondant decorations.
Cake board
I covered the cake board in marbled blue fondant, then put a chocolate fondant island around the base of the cake.
